Bar staff convicted of vicious assault
The co-owner of the Fridge Bar in Brixton, south London, has been convicted along with members of staff of violent disorder and attempted grievous bodily harm.
Bar cashier Victor Reid, 41, from Brixton, doorman Frederick Mallefroy, 43, from Ilford in Essex and bar co-owner Ralph Daley, 45, of Purley, set upon a man in his twenties as he tried to gain entry to the bar in November 2006.
Mallefroy did not attend court and was convicted in his absence.
The Fridge Bar and adjoining club have in the past hosted many well-known gay events.
The men are due to be sentenced today along with another of the bar's co-owners Gary Baker, 37, of Paddington, and DJ James Stevenson, 25.
They were witnessed disposing of an iron bar Daley had used in the attack.
CCTV footage was vital in convicting the men.
It captured the vicious attack in which the man was beaten so hard with an iron bar that it buckled.
Although their victim, who was beaten and kicked unconscious, declined to give a statement the police secured the convictions against the men using the footage.
A fourth man who took part in the attack was never found. Anyone with information should call Lambeth CID on 020 8649 2119 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
