Religious fanaticism is borne out of desperation, something that has gone wrong in a person's life. It usually finds fertile ground in poverty and lack of education. These are very seriously damaged people and they are to be pitied.It would be interesting to see how believers would react if Rowan Williams and the Pope tomorrow did an about turn and accepted same-sex equality, they'd all have their knickers in a twist for sure, but I think they'd all cave-in and reverse their hypocrisy.
