Gay rights row taken to TV
A couple campaigning for gay rights are taking their local council row onto prime time television.
Joe and Helen Roberts have become the focus of national attention after questioning Wyre Council's gay rights policy. The couple will appear in an interview on Channel 4's Dispatches programme which is investigating civil liberties and freedom of speech.
The couple hit the headlines in Fleetwood after they suggested Christian Literature should be put alongside gay rights information at Wyre Civic Centre. A council official complained to police over what they felt could be homophobic views. Officers then visited the couple at their Street home.
The Christian Institute is trying to raise funds to underwrite a possible legal action against the council and police under human rights legislation.
A spokesman for Wyre Council and Lancashire Police told the Blackpool Gazette they wouldn't provide an interview for the programme.
