An openly gay lawyer has settled a discrimination case with one of the world's most prestigious law firms, Sullivan Cromwell in New York.

28-year-old Aaron Charney had accused the firm of systematic discrimination against him due to his sexual orientation.

On Friday, Sullivan Cromwell confirmed that they had "resolved" differences between the firm and their former employee.

Mr Charney had claimed that he was subjected to "lewd and illegal conduct" at the firm.

In one incident, he claimed that a a senior colleague threw a bundle of papers at his feet before instructing him to "bend over and pick it up", adding: "I'm sure you like that."

Mr Charney, was dismissed from the firm shortly after making his complaint. He has told newspapers that he will not rule out returning to the top law firm if asked back.
