Northampton's gay drinkers may be caged in
A gay pub in Northampton is considering installing a cage around its beer garden to stop customers throwing bottles, pornography and pot plants into the adjacent staff car park of a branch of Debenhams.
Management at the department store complained to the council about the Boston Clipper pub in the town centre.
Debenhams security manager, Kenneth Dowsett, told the Evening Telegraph:
"Over a long period of time, we've had a constant problem with glasses, bottles, ashtrays, pornographic material, items of a sexual nature, potted plants, and discarded smoking material being thrown over the boundary wall between our staff car park and the Boston Clipper.
"Some of the material thrown over is very offensive to our members of staff if they see it when leaving their vehicles."
Danny Edwards, landlord of the Boston Clipper, told the paper:
"We're aware of the problem and it's a problem for us too as it's our glasses and pot plants that are being thrown over the wall by customers.
"We've been considering putting a cage around the whole garden for a while now.
"It seems that might be the only option, so it's what we're going to do."
