Lisa Keen is wrong on several key points. Bush's near genocidal oil piracy in Iraq, his reactionary social programs, and the callous abandonment he demonstrated during the Katrina disaster has indeed collapsed his poll numbers; in the 25% to 30% range they’re the lowest since Nixon’s Watergate escapades. But if the numbers put Bush on flat on the floor, the polls indicate that the Democratic controlled Congress is in the toilet. The number of Americans who are very dissatisfied with both parties and their shell game is increasing and will begin to include larger numbers from the GLBT communities after the hate crimes bill was attached to a war spending bill and the ENDA was gutted. People are unwilling to accept excuses and promises of pie in the sky; they want real world tangible results. For the population as a whole the war remains the defining question, and this Congress was elected on a promise to stop it. Instead they've voted to partition Iraq, steal their oil, build permanent bases and invade Iran. On the question of samesex marriage all the serious candidates in both parties are obstinately opposed and favor this or that law to keep us in second class status, which embolden the thugs. The Republicans may have exhausted the worst of their ability to scapegoat us but they’ve had decades of experience as racists, bigots and unions busters so we have to assume they’ll think of something. Their Democratic colleagues across the aisle have definitely not given up attempting to betray us and sideline our struggles. The big question is Iran. Will Bush invade and will that force the candidates to accept a wider war? For now it looks as if the worst will happen. Here are excerpts from a recent story in The Telegraph under the headline US TRAINS GULF AIR FORCES FOR WAR WITH IRAN written by Tim Shipman, their correspondent in Washington:“The American air force is working with military leaders from the Gulf to train and prepare Arab air forces for a possible war with Iran, The Sunday Telegraph can reveal. Gen Michael Mosley, the US Air Force chief of staff, used the conference to seek closer links with allies whose support America might need if President George W Bush chooses to bomb Iran. But Air Chief Marshal Sir Glen Torpy, the head of the RAF, voiced the fear of many British officials that America is too devoted to military solutions. “
