The lesbian, gay and bisexual organisation Stonewall Cymru has appointed a new Director.

Liz Morgan will take the lead on promoting LGB equality across Wales.

She has extensive knowledge of equality and diversity and joins Stonewall Cymru from Cardiff Council, where she was Diversity Officer for Adult Services and previously HR Lead Advisor for Equalities.

Liz has also served for six months as Acting Director of Stonewall Cymru.

"I am delighted to be joining Stonewall Cymru at an exciting time for lesbian and gay equality in Wales," she told PinkNews.co.uk

"We have won huge successes recently.

"But while there are lesbian and gay children too frightened to go to school and gay employees being the butt of office jokes, we still have much to do. I look forward to the challenges ahead."

Liz is a fluent Welsh speaker and was a finalist in the Welsh Learner of the Year in 2002.

She is well known and respected in the LGB community as a former Community Director of the Cardiff-Wales Mardi Gras, chair of the Rainbow Centre Project and the first-ever Chair of the Older Lesbian Network (OLN) Wales.

"My knowledge and understanding of the LGB community will mean everything Stonewall Cymru does will be to improve the lives of LGB people across Wales," she said.

Stonewall Cymru recently launched a bilingual guide to the new goods and services protections for lesbian, gay and bisexual (LGB) people.

Sponsored by Lloyds TSB, The Colour of your Money guide explains to lesbians and gays across Wales all they need to know about the new regulations.

The 12-page booklet has been distributed across Wales through hundreds of outlets including libraries, lesbian and gay venues, Citizens Advice offices and community groups.

Welsh-language versions were also handed out at last weekend's the National Eisteddfod of Wales.

For the fifth year running Stonewall Cymru held a meeting at the annual celebration of Welsh traditional music, language and culture

"North Wales Police and Crown Prosecution Service pledged their support to fight hate crime in Wales - it was a very successful meeting," said Matthew Batten, Policy and Public Affairs Officer for Stonewall.
