Tackling homophobic hate crime in Wales is the key theme to Stonewall Cymru's fifth annual Eisteddfod meeting.

Gay equality organisation Stonewall will be attending the annual celebration of Welsh traditional music, language and culture, the National Eisteddfod of Wales.

Tackling homophobic hate crime in Wales is the key theme to Stonewall Cymru's fifth annual Eisteddfod meeting.

Speakers from North Wales Police, Crown Prosecution Service and Victim Support will highlight positive work that is being undertaken to tackle homophobic hate crime and will explore best practice for supporting lesbian, gay and bisexual (LGB) victims of hate crime.

Actors Rhys Miles Thomas and Valmai Jones will also perform a short theatre piece based on real experiences of homophobic hate crime.

Jenny Porter, Stonewall Cymru's Community Liaison Officer, told PinkNews.co.uk:

"This is Stonewall Cymru's 5th year at the Eisteddfod and we have a proud history of being 'Out on the Maes.'

"Our Eisteddfod meetings continue to go from strength to strength and they are increasingly being seen as a major opportunity for Welsh speaking lesbian, gay and bisexual people to have their say on issues they are effected by.

"We know that a significant number of homophobic hate crime incidences go unreported which is a serious issue that must be addressed.

"Lesbian, gay and bisexual people need to feel reassured that hate crime is being taken seriously in order for them to feel confident to report it. We welcome a lively and informative debate on this issue."

The meeting will take place on Saturday 4th August at the Sbardun Pavilion between 12:30pm and 1:30pm.
