Pride celebration a first for Doncaster
The Yorkshire town of Doncaster is preparing to host its first Gay/Trans Pride event with a spectacular and colourful festival to be held in the Market Place on Sunday 19th August from 12noon.
"Pride events are non-political, non-campaigning events designed to be a festival of fun and celebration for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community and supporters.
"The events provide the community with an opportunity to be highly visible and although pride events have been hosted throughout the country and internationally for many years this is a first for South Yorkshire and Doncaster plans to do it in style," organisers said.
The event is being supported and funded by local agencies and organisations, co-ordinated by Doncaster Partnership Against Homophobia/Transphobia (DPAH/T)
The gay community in the town have decided against holding a parade. Instead the event will centre around a live stage in the market area where an array of performers from the Reece Lightning travelling stage show will entertain the crowds with a mix of singing, dancing and variety performances.
The show boasts well known acts from the West End Stage and TV - all presented and compared by Doncaster born Reece.
The streets will be full of activities ranging from stilt walkers to children's rides as well as a Rainbow mini market with over 30 stalls from groups and agencies proudly displaying their work around equality and inclusion.
"The support given to this event by local organisations clearly shows a demonstration of professionalism in promoting equality, diversity and inclusion within all communities," a Pride spokesperson told PinkNews.co.uk.
"This is a fantastic opportunity for the LGBT community, family, friends and supporters to get together and experience Doncaster's first LGBT festival, please come along and see for yourself - everyone is welcome."
