George Michael will not go to jail
George Michael will not be sent to jail after pleading guilty to driving while unfit.
District Judge Katherine Marshall at Brent Magistrates Court ruled out a custodial sentence, instead giving Michael 100 hours community service and a two year driving ban.
Today the singer said that he regretted endangering the lives of others.
He said: "I was ashamed I had done something really wrong in putting other people at risk."
He admitted the offence but claimed he was guilty due to "tiredness and prescribed drugs."
Michael, 43, was found slumped at the wheel of his car in Cricklewood on October 1st last year.
Michael had a mix of drugs in his system at the time of arrest, including GHB and cannabis, which he described as his "drug of choice."
On his appearance on ITV's Parkinson the star admitted that he was worried any sentence he is given could affect his US working visa, as he has a tour planned there for next year.
Tomorrow night Michael is scheduled to play in the inaugural concert at the new Wembley stadium.
