University's gay health certificate a success
A qualification in gay men's health will continue to run at the University of East London due to its unprecedented success.
The one-year certificate was first launched last year, and is designed for people interested in or already working in the field of gay men's health promotion.
Areas of study include positive mental health, current health policies, stigma and discrimination and epidemiology of HIV.
Students also learn about the variety of professional opportunities within the field, before going on to a supported and structured work placement either at the Terence Higgins Trust (THT) or one of its partner organisations.
Ilana Morrissey, senior lecturer in UEL's School of Health and Bioscence said:
"This is a successful and innovative collaboration… The programme gives students both an academic and a professional grounding in the areas most central to the field of gay men's health promotion.
"We have had a splendid year and we are looking forward to building on that success."
Will Nutland, Head of Health Promotion at Terence Higgins Trust said: "We are very excited about collaborating with the University of East London for a second year on this pioneering programme."
The university certificate in gay men's health promotion will begin again at UEL's Stratford campus this September.
