Making changes like this is not an easy thing to do, especially when there are places like some local GP's and the NHS that still won't recognise transsexualism as being something that needs to be dealt with, you need the support of friends and family to get through this otherwise it can be very lonely. Its takes a lot of money, heartache as well as emotional turmoil to go through something like this, heads up for Lucy and all the very best for the future, shes a brave young girl... This documentary shows the problems of an under 18 year old facing the trauma of proving that he was a girl living in the body of a male. It presently is against the law in UK to have gender re-assignment before the age of 18, although I understand that hormone treatment is available, her family were very supportive and Lucy was given the support that was needed. The NHS is very slow in recognising gender re-assignment as the process of waiting for altering operations fade into years of waiting, thankfully Lucy was able to have her upper body operation financed privately by her family. Good luck to her and I think it was brave of the BBC for a change to show the struggle that Lucy endured.
