A new group, Pride South West, has organised Bristol Pride Fringe Week, which will take place on 11th-17th August this year.

PSW, a group of volunteers devoted to creating a festival in Bristol to represent the LGBT community, has called the event "a celebration of creativity and diversity."

It comprises a week of fringe events and a summer festival on 18th August.

The week aims to "bring together LBGT and other communities to inspire creativity, promote great talent and make a stand against segregation and discrimination."

As well as boasting a range of performances in venues across Bristol from musicians, comedians and poets, the week will include competitions for local musicians and DJs, with the chance for the winners to support the headline act at the summer festival.

Another competition gives visual artists the change to create a piece to represent the event.

The summer festival on Saturday 18th August will take place in Castle Park, providing music and comedy for all, as well as the announcement of the competition winners.

Audiences will have the chance to add to the artwork created for the festival, with the hope that it will be preserved as a symbol of Bristol's diversity.

An open meeting will be held on 18th April at Bristol Council House for the public to make suggestions to PSW about the Bristol Pride.
