Government funds "educational" lesbian erotic films
A Spanish region is to encourage the use of its native language by funding a local film maker's "women-friendly erotic films."
The government of Catalonia has awarded a £10,000 grant to Conrad Son, a local who claims his films are artistic but not pornographic.
Officials in the north-eastern Spanish region have deemed the erotic films useful in spreading the Catalan language.
Mr Son told ABC newspaper that as an experienced pornographer, he would be able to keep his films erotic rather than explicit.
He argued that the plots, inclusion of meaningful dialogue and non-explicit sex scenes showed his work is artistic.
The films, with titles like Laura is Not Alone and The Memory of Fish, see female characters go on erotic adventures, including lesbian sex.
The Conservative Spanish national government has accused the Socialist-controlled Catalan regional authorities:
"To publicly fund pornographic films . . . borders on misappropriation of taxpayers' money," the Madrid government said, according to ABC.
