Tackling Homophobic Hate Crime in Wales is the theme of Stonewall Cymru's annual conference in Swansea next month.

Speakers will include representatives from the South Wales Police and the Crown Prosecution Service, who will highlight the positive work that is being done to challenge homophobic hate crime in the principality.

Jenny Porter, Stonewall Cymru Community Liaison Officer, said, "Homophobic hate crime needs to be taken seriously in Wales.

"Between April 2005 and 2006 as little as 500 homophobic hate crimes were reported in Wales and only 25 cases resulted in successful prosecution.

"We hope the conference will encourage more lesbian, gay and bisexual people to report homophobic hate crime and inspire them to work with the Police to improve safety in their local community."

There will also be workshops exploring how the police and the lesbian, gay and bisexual community (LGB) can work together to improve community safety.
