Good on the church for standing up to the bully boys. Judging by the other posts on this site (and as usual) the supposedly greatest proponents for tolerance are the most intolerant (and pretty vicious with it). If you want to be gay that's your business but don't force it on the rest of the UK. Gay people are after all a tiny minority of the population. There is nothing natural about a child, who cannot make decisions for itself, being brought up by a homosexual couple. If it was meant to be natural a homosexual couple would be able to have children of their own. How blindingly obvious does it have to be, people!

Seems odd that Ms Blair would support anti Gay tactics since she is well known as a Human Rights Lawyer? Methinks that Cherie is just another of those hypocrites we so often see in positions of power!

It seems to me that the Vatican in tandem with the Church of England among others are now dictacting British laws and policy. No denomination should be above the law, no matter one's religious beliefs. To justify the denial of equality to an entire group of people simply because one's religious beliefs are in conflict with certain laws is no excuse to threaten the government or the people of the U.K. by what is nothing more than blackmail. Its disgusting when you consider that the two major denominations claim to be Christian. There are many things banned in the bible including divorce for example, yet the Church of England permits it and the Catholic church permits annulments (divorce by another name) in spite of the ten commandments, yet the C of E allows Prince Charles to have a religious ceremony when he married Parker-Bowles, a divorced woman and an adulterer. Where was the condemnation by all the major religions on that? Pretty silent if you ask me. If that is not hypocrisy, I don't know what is. Yet it is quite revealing when Christian denominations and others deliberately choose to cherry pick on a scant, questionable reference in Leviticus concerning homosexuality, yet ignores other references overwhelmingly aimed at heterosexuals such as permission to kill one's wife for adultery, yet the bigots conveniently choose to ignore that reference, among many others. What is even more repugnant is that the reference in Leviticus wasn't even uttered by Jesus Christ. I think Elton John had it right...religion should be banned, it has done nothing but cause wars, divides societies, incites hatred, intolerance and does not believe in true democracy, never has and never will. It has no place in a civilised society and should be told to shut up or lose government funding. Robert, ex-Londoner.

Is Ruth Kelly being unfairly fingered for Cherie's crime? Is this unelected motormouth muppet having undue influence again? Or is she a convenient scapegoat? I have the utmost respect for Alan Johnson so I'm not sure what to think today!
