Meg Munn's claim that "it wos Labour wot won it " is just not true.Anyone who watched the debate in the House of Commons in November 2004 knows that the Labour proponents were totally lacklustre in the House.By contrast the Tory MPs ,Alan Duncan and Charles Hendry were brilliant. They even shut Paisley's trap. The CPA came into force after great delay ,Britain has lagged years behind our European Partners in this type of legislation. There had always been a powerful covert lobby in New Labour that on religious grounds that has fought to prevent the implementation of gay rights especially when they felt these rights would impinge on the privileges of "marriage" - whatever constitutes "marriage" today.

So over 15000 Civil Partnerships in England in the first twelve months of the CPA...and not a word from Gordon Brown, the next Labour Prime Minister ,who fought the CPA tooth and nail through cabinet with his Treasury Team refusing to accede to Inheritance Tax exemption rights and pension rights for public service pensions right up to 48 hours before the Commons was to vote on the Third final Reading of the Bill.He must be very disappointed. What is it going to be like to have a homophobic bigot as Prime Minister in a few months time?
