Michael Barrymore, the gay former TV host, has entered the Celebrity Big Brother house in Elstree.

Mr Barrymore, 53, is best known as the host of the hit ITV game show Strike It Lucky in the 1980s and 1990s.

In an interview filmed before entering the Big Brother House, he said, "if people want to call it a come back they can, but I haven't be away."

In 2001, he was mired in controversy following the death of Stuart Lubbock, who was found with sexual injuries after drowning in Mr Barrymore's swimming pool.

Sources close to the Channel 4 show claim that Mr Barrymore has been warned by the police to avoid making comments relating to Mr Lubbock's death during the reality tv contest.

"We have strict compliance rules," a spokesman for Channel 4 said today, "we have to be very vigilant about everything the celebs say in the Big Brother house and will bleep out anything too personal or that involves gossip."

Mr Barrymore joined fellow housemates; Pete Burns, former front man of the band Dead or Alive, former BayWatch star Traci Bingham, Maggot of the band Goldie Lookin Chain, legendry actress Rula Lenska, the model Jodie Marsh, Dennis Rodmen, Preston from the band the Ordinary Boys and the controversial Respect MP, George Galloway.
