A gay escort who outed a senior church leader is now being sought by police on drugs charges.

Mr Haggard denied the sex allegations but said he did buy drugs from Mike Jones because he was curious.

But now Mr Jones is likely to be questioned by police over the use of crystal meth.

His lawyer, David Lane, told the KUSA television station, "One aspect of Mike Jones going public in this is that he would become an object of police scrutiny.

"I informed the Denver Police and the Denver DA, Mike has nothing to say to them. Any contact they want with him has to come through me."

Mr Jones told reporters he decided to go public because he was upset when he discovered Haggard and the New Life Church had publicly opposed same-sex marriage.

He said: "It made me angry that here's someone preaching about gay marriage and going behind the scenes having gay sex."

The revelation created a media frenzy in the US and Mr Haggard has been keen to avoid questions instead stating in a letter to his church that, "There is a part of my life that is so repulsive and dark that I've been warring against it all of my adult life."
