French football tackles homophobia
French football is showing the red card to homophobia in a new campaign launched at one of the country's top clubs.
The Carton Rouge a l'Homophobie campaign kicked off inside the Parc de Prince stadium at a match between Paris Saint Germain and RC Lens in the French capital last night.
As a curtain raiser to the main event, fans saw gay football team Paris Foot Gay take on Foot Citoyen, a youth side, backed by French international and Arsenal star Thierry Henry.
It aims to make football fans and players sensitive to homophobia and is backed by the country's gay teams.
Postcards, badges and the logo for the initiative were designed Paris Foot Gay's sponsor Agnes b.
The campaign's logo will be worn by Paris Foot Gay as well as Montrabe Beaupuy (in the South of France) and FC Chooz, two other gay teams.
It echoes commitments by the English Football Association and UEFA to confront all types of discrimination in football.
