Hollywood actor Rupert Everett will show his support for World AIDS Day later this month in Manchester.

Everett, one of Hollywood's first openly gay actors, will visit the city's gay village on November 22nd as part of a promotional tour for his autobiography Red Carpets and Other Banana Skins.

It will form part of the city's World AIDS Day events between November 22nd and December 7th 2006.

Everett said that he has enjoyed meeting with people so much during promotional tours for the book that he wants to visit Manchester's Gay Village while he is in the city, to show his support for events that raise awareness and money for World AIDS Day.

"My feeling is that a lot of kids don't see that HIV is a real problem. Luckily enough I never acquired HIV and I've been careful about it, but the scar of it and the terror of it has always been in my mind," he said.

Over 20 events are planned in Manchester's Gay Village by the Lesbian and Gay Foundation to raise funds for Operation Fundraiser, which will benefit HIV and LGBT causes in Manchester.

Red and Wild events will be held at almost every venue in the Village along with other initiatives throughout the city - please see attached document for full details.

World AIDS Day takes place on December 1st 2006.
