Police appeal for help after gay attack
Westminster police are making a fresh appeal for information one month after a 28-year old man was subjected to a vicious assault.
At approx. 0315 on September 23 2006, the victim and two friends approached the footbridge at Hungerford Bridge from the direction of Northumberland Avenue, WC2.
A group of ten youths followed the friends on to the bridge. After a verbal altercation, the victim was beaten about the head and then asked if he was gay.
The group then continued with their violent attack, resulting in the victim suffering a fractured cheekbone, broken nose and severe bruising.
The victim was assisted by a passer-by, who police are eager to trace. He was then taken by ambulance to UCH.
The group were in their mid-teens, mainly male, but some females were seen to be with them. They were described as predominately white, although black and Asian youths were also present.
Police are appealing for anyone who was in the vicinity of Hungerford Bridge and Northumberland Avenue and may have seen this incident or the group of youths prior to, or after the assault, to contact them on 020 7321 9388, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
