A football manager has been fined by UEFA for homophobic comments made two years ago.

Otto Baric, head coach of the Albanian national team has been fined 5000EUROS (£3374) by the European football governing body over comments he made in the past about gay players.

Mr Baric, 71, said in an interview with Croatian newspaper Jutarnji List, "I would not let a player of mine be homosexual, nor allow one to work with me."

He said he could not rely on homosexuals because they are "weak" and "sick."

Gay rights group Outrage recently complained about allegedly homophobic comments made by Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes in a Champions League match, the Football Association has said it's a matter for UEFA as the incident took place in a European competition.
