Lesbian tennis legend retires
Tennis ace Martina Navratilova ended her professional playing career for the second time yesterday with a mixed doubles victory at the US Open.
The lesbian legend made the accolade her 59th major title which has included 18 singles trophies, 31 women's doubles and 10 medals for mixed doubles.
Last night's victory was achieved with American Bob Bryan against Kveta Peschke and Martin Damm from the Czech Republic.
Navratoliva previously announced her retirement in 1994 only to return in 2000, but now the 49-year-old has promised she will not be serving again.
She told fans, "I'm quitting because I want to, not because I have to, this is the last match, this is definite."
