Though Civil Partnerships offer many of the rights of traditional marriage, these partnerships are by definition NOT marriages. If that were the case, marriage would be and should be available to every citizen. So in essence, there is no equality for all in the UK. I don't understand why CPs are often referred to as marriages when the Blair Goverment have emphatically stated that they are not. Why isn't anyone pushing for CPs to be merged into the Marriage Causes Act and do what the true democracies of the world have done such as Belgium, Canada, Holland, Spain and soon S. Africa, opening marriage to all of their citizens. That's true democracy for you.
