Manchester Pride parade will be held this Saturday, and should be the highlight of the week-long festivities.

Age Concern are set to make an impression at this year's Manchester pride, with an ingenious float and some custom-made wheel chairs.

The charity want to highlight the support they give to older LGBT people, and after individual appearances at a range of pride events, Age Concern branches from across the NorthWest have joined forces.

The result will be an eye-popping float, featuring a 12ft feathered angel sculpture, accompanied by more human-sized angels in white gowns and other fairy-garbed attendants.

Manchester Pride parade will be held this Saturday, and should be the highlight of the week-long festivities.

Sharon Brearley, Director of Age Concern Salford said: "We hope to continue to raise awareness of the diversity that exists in the UK and demonstrate that support groups exist for older LGBT people.

"We recognise that there are differences in generations and that many older people are celebrating their sexuality, so we are delighted to be there and support older LGBTs at Manchester Pride again this year."

In addition to the parade entry, Age Concern will be holding a pre-Pride event at Cross Street Chapel, Manchester from 4pm to 8pm on Thursday 24 August, with Tai Chi classes, drum workshops, art and poetry sessions.

There will also be an information stall open from Saturday 26 to Monday 28 August, in Manchester's Gay Village (Chorlton Bus Station) for people to visit and find out more about the services that local Age Concerns can offer the LGBT community, as well as the insurance products available for older people.
