Brighton nightclub Revenge has become the first gay venue in the city to offer protection against drink spiking.

The club, which is the biggest gay venue on the south coast, is now giving customers the choice of numerous anti-spiking devices when they order a drink.

The devices work when securely fastened over the top of pint glasses and bottles - preventing would-be drug-spikers from tampering with drinks.

Andrew Roberts, who manages the club, told PinkNews.co.uk: "Revenge operates a zero tolerance policy on drug use. We've introduced this anti-spiking initiative to make our customers feel as comfortable and confident as possible whilst enjoying a night out at the club."

Reports from venues across the south indicate that drink-spiking is on the increase, leading to a number of 'straight' bars and clubs in the area introducing similar drink protection. "It's a problem that people need to be aware of," said Mr Roberts.

"I'm happy to say that more and more of our customers are now using the drink-covers," he said.

The devices will also be available at R Bar, Revenge's sister venue in Brighton.
