Thousands of revelers braved the rain and the recent terrorist attacks to attend Big Gay Out, held in Finsbury Park on Saturday.

The event, which was organised for the second time by the dating website, FaceParty saw performances from Girls Aloud, Human League, Bananarama and Frankie Goes to Hollywood.

Former Libertines front man, Pete Docherty's new band Babyshambles were due to perform but Grahame Norton, one of the event's presenters informed the crowd, "if you came to see Babyshambles, you've had a wasted journey, if they're here, I don't know where they are."

The festival, which offered tents and stages with dance, RnB, indie and pop music had a highly visible police presence. Sniffer dogs were in evidence at the main entrance to the park together with some fifty police officers.

Inside the venue, there were scores of police and community support officers along with hundreds of police volunteers who handed out balloons, free sunglasses and police wristbands.

There were also suspected police snipers positioned at key high-rise flats that border the park.

The festival, which is a commercial operation that makes a donation to the Stonewall Foundation, was not expected to be profitable this year. However, the organisers, FaceParty claim that they are committed to the project and will aim to make the festival profitable within the next three years.
