An impartial, non-political and scientific appraisal of the nature/nurture debate is long overdue.Unfortunately, this article was not it.If these matters could be discussed in the context where 'Normal', 'Deviant', etc were treated merely as Statistical Artifacts, rather than being tied in with judgemental loadings, then there would be scant need for such defensive posturing.Taking the context of that paragraph above then, let us consider the idea of whether or not heterosexuality is 'normal'. Yes, it is. Statistically (and in actuality), more people will be heterosexual rather than homosexual. It ties in with continuation of the species and is therefore, perfectly normal and natural.Homosexuality at least statistically (leaving aside social/moral/ethical judgement) is 'deviant' insofar as it is ostensibly a minority sport. There most likely are genetic underpinnings to sexual orientation but these could be influenced by environmental factors such as peer-group pressure, cultural and societal expectations, primary relationships (to parents), etc.It is no accident that the seemingly exponential growth of the homosexual world has occurred at a time when people reaching the age of majority are doing so at a time when many people are less judgemental about it than when I was growing up, for example. It should also be remembered that hormonal levels in the womb during gestation, eg the amount of Testosterone is thought by some researchers to have a bearing on whether or not a child is born Autistic (it is thought that 75% of people born with autism are male), so the idea of biological causation is not as unreasonable as the 'clean slate' environmental causation activists would have us believe.Another point to remember is that if homosexuality can be reliably attributed to biological or genetic causes then it also holds out the hope for parents who wish to be sure of raising a heterosexual cihld. This last point is where things could become strained in the current political climate.

I would like to commend this commentary. It needed to be said, these issues have irked me for some time and it's refreshing to see it covered in an environment where the complexities and issue of bisexuality are passively and actively ignored or even demeaned. Kudos.
