A Romanian Christian group filed a complaint today seeking to stop a gay pride march schedule for this weekend.

The New Right told a Bucharest court the parade would be a "manifestation designed to provoke the obscene and anti-social."

The march will end a week of events under the GayFest celebrations currently taking place in the Eastern European country.

It will be the country's second gay pride since decriminalising homosexuality in 2001.

It is also illegal to discriminate against gay people in Romania and campaigners recently sought gay marriage laws.

Romania is under pressure to bring its laws in line with the European Union in anticipation of its membership next year. A commitment to fighting homophobia has previously been signalled by the political body.

Last weekend gay activists were attacked in Moscow after the Russian gay pride was banned and attendees of the upcoming Warsaw gay pride have been threatened with violence.

The court will rule on the complaint tomorrow.
