A Catholic high school teacher has been sacked after revealing that he is gay on a website.

Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas school claimed Jeff Crouse had violated teachings of the Catholic Church when he declared his sexuality on blogging website myspace.com and said he was looking for "straight-acting single men."

Mr Crouse, 45, who had taught at the school for six years, told the Las Vegas Sun his contract was terminated after he was shown the MySpace page and accused of "maintaining, by word or action, a position contrary to the ordinary teaching of the Catholic Church."

Employees at the school are contracted not to violate church doctrines.

The school was unavailable for comment.
