Ford upholds gay employee rights
Ford Motor Company has fought back pressure form Christian groups and shareholders pushing for the car maker to abandon its sexual orientation anti discrimination policies.
A vote at the manufacturer's annual meeting decided that sexuality should remain on its equal employment policies.
Over 95% of shareholders voted against removing the proposal, 4.73% voted for the removal, and 2.03% abstained.
Ford constantly faces boycotts and condemnation from the American Family Association, an anti gay group, for its support of gay issues.
In its latest campaign, the American Family Association (AFA) is calling for a boycott of the carmaker because of its support of a gay pride event in Detroit.
Cisco Codina, Ford's marketing vice president, said: "The Ford Motor Company Fund is a charity. It has a community agenda, not a political one, and it supports causes and people from all walks of life.
"In all areas, the fund, like the company, puts a priority on the support and development of organisations that promote diversity and inclusion."
