A farmer who became annoyed at gay men meeting on his land for sex is using a couple of dozen pigs to dissuade them.

Richard Fonge, of Hurst Farm, near Kenilworth, has also felled a number of trees, put up a steel fence and posted 'private' signs.

Locals say the area, called Roughknowles Wood, started becoming popular with gay cruisers around 15 years ago.

Fonge told the Coventry Telegraph: "I’m not homophobic, I just don’t like trespassers.

“The police didn’t want to know.

"At its worst there were as many as ten cars parked in nearby lanes, and they’d start from about 11am.”

He added he was “mightily relieved" his measures had worked, having tried numerous strategies over the years, including placing tree trunks across a parking area.

Fonge said the son of a local landowner had come up with the idea of using pigs.

In May, it was reported that residents in Derbyshire wood were patrolling with chainsaws and shotguns to destroy makeshift shelters in a cruising ground.
