Pride to combat homophobia in Eastern Europe
As part of EuroPride06 in London this June, a major conference which aims to combat homophobia in Eastern Europe has been set up.
Stephen Coote, chairperson of Pride London, said: "The current extreme reaction to plans for a Pride march in Moscow in May is just the latest in a series of sometimes violent prejudice.
"The aim is to build on the successes achieved so far by sharing the lessons gained and by exploring the ways that European institutions and international solidarity can contribute to further advances."
The Pride Against Prejudice conference on 30 June, the day before the EuroPride Parade in central London, will also share positive learning from the UK, with workshops on "Pride and policing" and "Pride and diversity."
Meanwhile 100 gay couples are being sought by the producers of the EuroPride show on 2 July 2006 at the Royal Albert Hall.
Taking part will be Julian Clary, Graham Norton, Tina C, Alan Carr, Stephen Fry, Sandi Toksvig, Betty Legs Diamond Company from Blackpool Funnygirls.
London's newest show from America Avenue Q have also agreed to perform a specially written piece. Gay Men's Chorus will be singing with a surprise star. And news of who will be top of the bill is a closely guarded secret, but will be announce in the next couple of weeks.
