Video: Another fire breaks out in Soho
A fire broke out in the centre of Soho earlier today, making it the third to hit the area in two months.
Firefighters were called to Wardour Street, in the heart of London’s gay scene, at 12.57pm today. The fire is thought to have started in an alleyway outside the Village Bar.
Four fire engines and 20 firefighters brought the small fire under control by 1.50pm.
A fire brigade spokeswoman said an external air conditioning vent had been damaged but said she was not aware of any injuries.
It is not yet known how the fire started.
An eyewitness who works in the bar next door told PinkNews.co.uk: “I saw smoke out of our third-floor window and then the fire alarm went off.
“The firefighters didn’t have a hose at first so the damage got worse than it should have done. But there was very little damage.”
A spokesman from Novus Leisure, which operates Village Bar and Shadow Lounge, said: “There was a small fire in the alleyway outside Village and Shadow Lounge earlier today. There is fortunately no damage to either bar and both are open for business as usual.”
In July, around 100 firefighters were called to tackle a blaze in Dean Street which destroyed a historic building.
The day before that, a small fire broke out in Newport Place. No one was hurt in either incident.
