The first gay couple to marry in a civil partnership in Birmingham, England are hoping to be the first gay couple to be jointly elected as local councillors.

James and Brynn Tudor became the first gay couple in Birmingham to marry last year and they are now both standing as Liberal Democrat candidates in the elections that take place tomorrow. The former is standing for the Chelmsley Wood and later for the Kingshurst and Fordbridge ward.

"It will be the first time the Liberal Democrats have stood in the north of Solihull and I'm really excited about it," Brynn Taylor told reporters whilst on the election trail. "There are a lot of things I would like to tackle in Kingshurst and Fordbridge such as anti-social behaviour and, if I win the seat, it will be one of the first things I do."

26-year-old James is a fashion student whilst 37-year-old Brynn is a charity worker. They married with a flamboyant Tudor style ceremony.

The other candidates standing in Chelmsley Wood are Martin McCarthy (Conservative Party ), George Morgan (British National Party) and Nicholas Stephens (Labour and Cooperative Party). In Kingshurst and Fordbrigde, the other candidates are Robert Hall (Conservative Party) and Florence Nash (Labour).
