Gay equality walk raises record amount
Stonewall's third Equality Walk in Brighton last Sunday raised over £30,000 to help tackle homophobia and homophobic bullying in schools.
A record turn out of over 200 stalwart supporters assembled at the Brighton seafront to raise money for the gay charity's continuing work, including its 'Education for All' programme.
The 10km sponsored walk, officially started by the Mayor of Brighton Hove Councillor Bob Carden , was led by the first couple to register their civil partnership in England Wales, the Rev Debbie and Elaine Gaston, and was kindly sponsored by Barclays.
The route took the walkers along the seafront and through Brighton's gay village, and finished with a well earned glass of champagne at an exclusive post-walk party hosted by our friends at Charles Street Bar.
Ben Summerskill, Stonewall chief executive, thanked all those who took part and presented some fantastic raffle prizes to participants. The highest fundraiser, Hannah Fox, won a fantastic week's holiday.
Ben Summerskill said, "We're enormously grateful to all those who took part and helped raise this incredible sum. This will enable us to do even more to help improve the lives of lesbians, gay men and bisexual people across Britain ."
