Students will hear about the discrimination faced by lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people across Europe at a special event tomorrow organised by the National Union of Students UK (NUS UK).

The One World event, supported by Amnesty International, will take place at the University of Manchester Students' Union. Speakers from various European countries will discuss their own personal experiences of prejudice and discrimination and the steps they are taking to combat this. Students will also view footage of Pride events that have taken place in Serbia, Croatia and Slovenia.

Organisations such as International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Youth and Students Organisation (IGLYO) and Young European Socialists (ECOSY) will be represented at the event.

NUS LGBT Officer Kat Louis said: "Whilst more and more is being done to tackle homophobia and discrimination in this country, the situation globally is very different. This event offers an amazing opportunity for us all to learn from and engage with the global fight for equality."

Students will also prepare activities to mark the upcoming International Day Against Homophobia, taking place on Wednesday 17 May.
