If there's one good thing that has come out of the recession, it's the closure of the Pink Paper. I wouldn't even wipe my feet on it. It will be remembered for its shoddy writing and the way it blatantly pushed the Millivres brand and its products. Let's hope GT goes the same way as the Pink Paper.

Yeah, the mainstream equivalents are the same, and that is the problem. We have allowed our culture to be commodifed and dumbed down in the same way. Gay stands for a lifestyle and one that used to be distinctive and edgy. Now it stands for trivia, materialism and self-obsession. GT still encompasses a few of the core values of the old days with penetrating articles spanning 2000+ words. But if it goes the way of Pink Paper then our cultural values will have reached the gutter level.

'Tis a fair point, Mihangel, but I'm pretty sure that the straight equivalents of GT are just the same. There are certainly dangers in perpetuating this sort of image, but I kinda like it: shows how similar we really are.

GT delivers a little information that I find relevant (ie gay-focussed current affairs, comment) and a lot of the usual entertainment, play, largely London-metro focussed stuff, along with ads from working boys and sleezy phone lines. I don't actually object to these latter two since boys have to work, and listening to dirty phone calls is mainly harmless. I do worry that one of the few sources of gay information about what is happening in the world is also perpetuating the image that all we're interested in is clubbing and holidaying – you really have to hunt for the substance.
