Liam Black, a postman from Chatham, Kent, has won £2,400 in an employment tribunal brought against the Royal Mail for “shocking and offensive” comments made about him by his boss Warren Taylor.

Taylor had referred to Black as “effeminate”, “girly”, “bitchy” and “pampered by his mother” during a meeting to discuss a workplace dispute.

The tribunal ruled that the "stereotypical language" used to refer to Mr Black was "derogatory" and discriminated against Mr Black because of his sexual orientation.

Black was awarded £2,000 for hurt feelings and a further £400 for the Royal Mail's failure to follow proper procedure once a formal complaint had been made.
