I'm disappointed in Obama's pride for weird perverts. These people are bringing down the decency and morality of our country. It's totally sicko. It saddens me, what you people are doing. God will punish our country as HE did Sodom. We'll pay greatly one day!!

I can only hope that this is not political rhetoric. I have often said that I am a political refugee resigned to living in the UK for these many years as here we enjoy the right to have a fully recognized Civil Partnership. I didn't expect this to happen here in my lifetime but it did. I look forward to the day when I can return home with my Civil Partner and full rights as noted under US law. Unfortunately, as it stands today "the land of the free" only applies to some of it's citizens.

Good point – there is a gulf of effectiveness between words and action. I guess this roadmapping is what Truman's "To Secure These Rights" speech was all about – and that was twenty years before the "full spectrum" of black civil rights could have been said to be implemented at a federal level. By drawing a simple parallel – now that presidential backing is explicit and the Republicans are beginning to see sense – the state of gay rights in the US should begin to improve from here. Acts will probably be slow in their arrival.

Oh, and there's also no Bush to veto the hate crimes bills anymore. Yay!

Nice proclamation. Now do something constructive, like eliminating all barriers to equality for American spouses of foreign-born people. In the few states where marriage or full civil union rights are established, spouses should be able to immigrate to the U.S. even if they can't yet get the same full federal rights as any other similar immigrant.

Well Barack dear, I am not going to dance naked in the streets because you seem to be on the side of minorities etc. I do not want to constantly look back, just forward to brighter horizons than we have now. Harassment will always be part of our make-up till dooms-day I suspect. I wish we did not have any use for LGBT protectionist movements, but alas we do need them still and how long ago was 1969–? forty years and counting, pehaps another forty years before the LGBT communities every where are safe as can be expected.
