I'm a Greek 47 yo gay guy in a blessed LTR with an American 62 yo guy for the last 7 years. The problem, of course, is that we are not allowed to be with each other for longer periods than 3 or (in the best case) 6 months. Either in Greece or the USA (US Federal Gov does not recognizes our union). We're trying to manage but, hey people, it's NOT easy. We ALL have to DO SOMETHING MORE…. Thanks.

Afterthought:

The Greeks are a wonderful people, relaxed and hospitable, but as long as practically all of them have Greek Orthodox religious bullshit in their heads (just like the Muslims next door in Turkey) there can be no healthy mental space for gays and lesbians living there. Still a great place to go for a holiday, but you have to remember that to the average "good" Orthodox Greek you are there only as a transient deviant tourist, a source of income. Could gays and lesbians, internationally, get it together so well that they boycotted Greek and hit the Greeks where it hurts, i.e. right in their dependency on foreign tourists.

It would be nice to hear from gay men and lesbians from Greece on this one. There's a good number of gay cafes and bars in Athens and a few in Thessaloniki, but very little else has developed, or been permitted. Why? The Greek Orthodox Church permeates every aspect of life in Greece. This means that Greece is still a country with its own identity and distinct culture, which is good. But it also means that in terms of sexuality there's a dominating external face and everything else is covert. Greece has, for example, refused a EU directive that it permit women to visit the 15 or so monasteries on the Mount Athos peninsula. Why have they not conformed? The extraordinary grip and power of the Greek Orthodox Church on every aspect of Greek life.

Check out the ancient art of your country, Alexander I think you'll find that your ancestors were well in to homosexuality centuries before Stonewall existed, and certainly had a more enlightened attitude than yours. Why? Because human beings then and now are born gay. Somebody else's relationship has absolutely no bearing on yours – unless, of course, you show such interest in gay sites because you're unsure of your OWN sexuality. That's usually the case with the most vociferous protesters, I've found…

Sadly the Greeks are a bit backwards when it comes to issue ssuch as social justice, equality and human rights. Let's hope they can be dragged into the 21st century!

I am PROUD OF MY COUNTRY, Greece, which does not bend before the bigoted homosexual agenda. Britain has succumbed to the mad ideology of Stonewall and got too far in confusing its wonderful people with "human rights" slogans. I am so glad that I can hear good news. Oh yeah, well, you’re gonna invoke your main weapons – name-calling and branding me “homophobic” (whatever that means), but it is good news that there are still people who value proper sexual relationship as between a man and a woman. Now poor folks, hate me!

Oh, right, because that makes sense *rolls eyes* I do wish that the EU would be more pro-active in promoting equality for LGBT people. I personally don't think any country should be allowed to join unless they have basic anti-discrimination policies for *all* their citizens.
And if the civil marriage law really made no mention of gender, than I hope they win their case. Civil marriage is no business of any church.
