Colorado gay workers await anti-discrimination laws
Gay workers in Colorado will be given anti discrimination laws, if a senator can avoid one governor in the state Senate.
The proposal replicates a plan from last year which was vetoed by Governor Bill Owens because it could be "costly for Colorado businesses."
But the bill sponsor, Senator Jennifer Veiga, hopes to avoid Mr Owens this year as she worries the law would fail "unless the governor is out of town on vacation, or out the country."
The Senate Bill 81 would add sexual orientation to a list of factors including religion and race, which cannot be used in employment decisions.
Senator Jim Dyer told the Denver Post the bill was an attempt to impose "political correctness" on businesses, "Diversity is not a reason to hire people," Mr Dyer said. "You hire people to do a job."
