A gay student who was expelled from the University of the Cumberlands after revealing his sexuality on a website, has had his suspension overturned so he can complete his coursework.

Jason Johnson, a theatre arts student, has reached an agreement with the school for him to finish his assignments this term.

School officials took action after a new policy on sexual conduct policy was introduced that forbids engaging in or promoting homosexuality.

University president Jim Taylor said information the student posted on a website went against university rules, he told the Kentucky Courier Journal, "We are different by design, and are nonapologetic about our Christian beliefs."

The university policy says, "Any student who engages in or promotes sexual behaviour not consistent with Christian principles may be suspended or asked to withdraw from the University of the Cumberlands."
