McBride is undoubtedly a nasty piece of work, but there is really no evidence at all that Gordon Brown is anti-gay. Its a fact that the PM and Chancellor don't vote often in the Commons particularly when a party has a large majority.

There ARE anti-gay individuals in the Labour party, but Brown isn't one of them.

I don't trust the Tories, although I know that there are more progressive views amongst some Tory members. They do not appear to wish to revert to gay bashing under Cameron but the right-wing anti-gay faction is certainly still more than present. We shall have to see, assuming they get elected. I won't be voting for them, however.

let us not forget that one of the stories they where going to spread was about a gay mp or what about the sugestion that a Female back bencher liked to screw men with dildos (surely genderist if not homophobia directed against a hetrosexual)?

trust this bunch of lieing, fanatical idiots? The people who set about puting in place stringent Censorship laws? The people who insist on knowing your sexuality if you apply for an arts council grant? The people who want to know everyone you've ever slept with? The people who want to know what sexual posisions you take with your partner?

He is right actually. The Conservatives have not been a friend to the gay community at all. I have never understood why any gay person would support the tories. All i can say is that very soon qwe will proberbly have a tory gov in place then we will see exactly what a homophobic party it is. They have been tried to stop and have voted against all gay rights legislation except civil partnerships. When they are in power the first to go will be the laws prevent religous organisations from discriminating against us,after that they will take a shot at the fertilty laws giving lesbians access to IVF. the gay community hasn`t really known a homophobic govt for many years. With our eyes closed we shall soon know one again.

Yep – I do. Check out the European Charter on Human Rights and the Treaty of Amsterdam, to name but a few, Stuart.

Like all the religious nutters on here there seems to be a large group of people on here who have swallowed the New Labour spin hook, line and sinker, despite the fact that daily the government is exposed for further lies and dishonesty.

Today we have the fact that the police have been misled of the content of documents passed to Damian Green, which in fact did nothing more than expose the fact that Whitehall was knowingly employing people with fake IDs.

At the weekend Labours plans to publish libellous smears of Conservatives MPs was exposed.

Jackie Smith, the 'two' Home Secretary, was exposed for cheating tax payers out of hundreds of thousands of pounds the week before.

The week before that Tony McNulty was caught doing the same thing.

And yet – you believe every last crooked word that comes out of their months ….

Damian McBride epitomises everything that is wrong with new Labour…..

Bullying, sneaky, mendacious and dishonest. Like a fish caught on a hook they wriggle and wriggle, and will tell any lie or falsehood in the vain attempt to spin their way out of their position.

They are corrupt, unethical and have lost all sense of morality as their snouts hit the trough again and again.

Removing the cancer of Damian McBride is just the first stage of the obliteration of the vile, rotten, new labour project and I cannot wait for the next general election where they will be slung out of office in disgrace.

The Tories would have done some of it and just like Labour they would have clung on until they were forced to – every single LGBT rights reform since 1997 has been initiated either from the Lib Dems (eg civil partnerships, gender recognition act) or from European legislation (age of consent, military ban).

Labour spin themselves well to the pink press but in the 97 – 01 parliament they blocked repeal of section 28 and poured taxpayers money into defending the military ban.
