However I can assure you my NI born partner is neither that type of catholic or violent towards me. Though LGBT life is much less prominent in Belfast than in Manchester the majority of the general population do appear friendly and open.

Lobbying by The Rainbow Project has ensured that same-sex domestic abuse and homophobic domestic abuse will now be included in the NI Domestice Violence for 2009 – 2011. (Implementation might be a different issue all together though, but I suppose it is a start.)

Internalised homophobia affects the mental health of gay people. DV perps are not mentally healthy people. Yes the Police need to deal with it effectively but what about trying to prevent it in the first place?!

Oh there's plent of internalised and institutional homophobia within the PSNI – they didn't deem it necessary to even question that Iris Robinson creature for incitement to hatred of gay people (using her viciously hateful religion as an excuse)

The report finds that it isn't internalised homophobia or institutionalised homophobia but a lack of training for the N.I. Police.

As for what causes DV…if we knew that then there wouldn't be any

I think it also has to do with discrimination. Internalised homophobia causes problems for people – and domestically violent people have problems otherwise they wouldn't be hurting their partners!!!!!!

It is as though the LGBT communities do not exist. What is even more awful is that this exclusion of us is in direct conflict with the Equalities (sexual orientation) legislation 2007 that makes it illegal to exclude LGBT people on the grounds of sexuality.

Except we are being excluded from domestic violence plans.
