Yeah . . it sends a message alright . . . we now know how bloody STUPID the legislators are ! A crime is a crime is a crime ! These ridiculous distinctions destroy the notion of equal protection under the law ! When will these people exhibit a bit of intelligence !

Urm Jeff, sorry to burst your bubble but Scotland is actually the last UK country to introduce hate crime laws against sexual orientation, gender and disability. I believe even Northern Ireland has legislation in place.

And it was Patrick Harvie of the Greens who initiated this legislation, not the SNP

I suppose the Scottish Roman Catholic cardinal will foul his knickers over THIS. The US hierarchy certainly has, concerning similar laws in the US … they won't be "allowed" to preach homophobia, promote hate, or diddle the altar-boys anymore.
