To all the other commentators:

Lets look at the alternative shall we?

Just this week Blackpool Tories cut funding for Pride. Brighton Tories refuse to fund services for LGBT homeless peopl. Only 5 tories voted to give lesbians equal fertility rights. 80% of the current Shadow Cabinet have voted against gay rights in the ten years since Labour took office. Only 5% voted for legislation to allow transgender people to legally change sex. 85% of all Tory MPs voted against or abstained from the vote on the Sexual Orientation Regulations in 2007. Tory leader David Cameron and key Shadow Cabinet collegaues William Hague, David Davis and George Osborne all voted against the repeal of Section 28 and against same-sex adoption.

Meanwhile a Labour Primeminister holds the first LGBT reception in Downing street, passes legislation giving LGB couples equal partnership rights, equalises the age of consent, repeals the Tory enacted Section 28, gets rid of the ban on LGBT people in the armed forces and enacts equality in law for access to goods and services… We need friends in government not right wingers who come late to the LGBT party because they think it will win them some votes…

This man is a total hypocrite – he fought tooth & nail against the Civil Partnerships Act in Cabineton the grounds that public sector pension rights and Inheritance Tax Exemption were privileges for married heterosexual couples only.He held strong religious objections to gay rights and and delayed the CPA's implementation for six months within the Treasury because he did not get his way against ony Blair's wishes.He is only after the gay vote for New Brown Labour and,characteristically,will say anything to try and get it.

It's all very well our "glorious leader" (to quote Diane Abbot MP!) banging the publicity drum for "his" achievements, but he very conveniently failed to mention that his Government has repeatedly refused to grant full legal rights to transpeople who are married without FORCING them to dissolve their marriage first.

Then of course, there is the discriminatory provision in the Civil Partnerships Act which prevents my partner and I having our civil partnership service conducted in our church – which is nutes when you consider that 90% of the congregation (including our pastor) are LGBT themselves, and we CAN perform civil marriages there…

Not impressed one bit.

Wonderful. I suppose this means he is going to legislate for equality between gay and straight relationships by either granting CP right to hetero people or extending marriage rights to gay people.
