We cannot expect the non-gays, nor the running-scared, to lead our efforts in education. We are to lead them in their learning of gay culture. There are many gay people who do not understand the terms 'gay culture', so how can we expect the general public to have a reasonable knowledge. It cannot be left to the ignorant to lead the wise. Many, if not most, gay people are hidebound. So, gay people, come out of your ignorance and guilt and learn about what 'gay' is and start being positve. Broaden your identities; gay is not just gay sex!

I think one of the problems at universities is the almost over-the-top respect for different "faiths." The fundamentalist Christians and Muslims are openly homophobic. It is a shame that people will stand up to fundamentalist Christians, but that Muslims get away with it.

This doesn't surprise me when we have radio and TV personalities using the word 'gay' as an insult and the likes of Al Murray dressing as a 'gay Nazi'. We're being presented as ineffectual figures of fun and actually in a more vicious way than in the 1960's and 1970's when the stereotypes from John Inman, Larry Grayson, Hugh Paddock and Kenneth Williams were a whole lot more affectionate.

Things can go backwards if we are complacent and I'd suggest we have been lately.
