Gay student expelled for 'promoting sexual behaviour'
A gay student has been expelled from a Baptist university after revealing his sexuality on an internet blog.
Jason Johnson, 20, felt comfortable being gay at the University of Cumberlands as the school's code of conduct only "barred lewd and indecent conduct."
But officials took action after a new policy on sexual conduct policy was introduced that forbids engaging in or promoting homosexuality.
University president Jim Taylor said information the theatre arts student posted on a website went against university rules, he told the Kentucky Courier Journal, "We are different by design, and are nonapologetic about our Christian beliefs."
The university policy says, "Any student who engages in or promotes sexual behaviour not consistent with Christian principles may be suspended or asked to withdraw from the University of the Cumberlands."
Students are reported to be upset by the decision . Mr Johnson said he was planning to leave anyway.
